Bruce Newell, Chair of the Board
Bruce became involved in DI in 2001 when his 8th grade daughter was invited to join a DI team and he and his wife, Pam, became the Team Managers by default. He has been hooked ever since. Bruce has been a TM, Appraiser for Challenges A, B, C, E, & IC, and Regional Challenge Master for Challenges A & B. Bruce helps photograph the winning teams at GF Closing Ceremonies each year. You may also know Bruce as Webmaster for the www.DI-Pins.org website showcasing all the pins traded at Global Finals each year. With over 84,000+ visitors to date it is a very popular website for teams, individuals, and Global Finals bound teams well before and after Global Finals each year. Most of all Bruce loves that any child can participate in DI somewhere, and truly learn and be exposed to all the things DI allows them to experience, see and learn throughout the program that lasts a lifetime. He was a true DI’er growing up, just never knew it! (Also likes Godzilla and is known to dance with TM’s, in front of teams and audiences, at Global Finals)
Denise Benczik, Vice-Chair of the Board – (Shared Seat with Steve)
Denise, a pharmacist, was asked to volunteer to assist in her daughter’s gifted classroom and later, in a twist of fate, established creative problem solving as an extracurricular in her local schools. In 1998 her team finished first in an Affiliate tie and attended Global Finals in Structures: By 2007 she had managed nine teams through a Global Finals experience and dozens more through DI seasons. The roles have been many, the journey fascinating, and the rewards beyond any expectation. With her own children beyond competition years, she continues appraising for her affiliate and the international program, but her first love is the kids who do DI and their addictive creativity that never disappoints. Its a family affair, with both adult children now volunteering with DII and her husband Steve partnering with her in the many roles throughout the years. Her only regret? “That DI wasn’t already around when I was a kid!”
Steve Benczik – (Shared Seat with Denise)
Steve, a 23-year veteran of DI and a professional engineer, has trained new DI leaders, managed teams, appraised on technical Challenges, worn the ACM hat for 15 years and changed hats (literally) to Globals team prep appraiser in the Tech Challenge and Scientific Challenge since 2000. He knows DI from both the manager side with Denise as his partner in DI as well as life, managing teams in parallel, and as an appraiser at all competitions levels. A creative stained glass artisan and woodworker, he currently works to market INDI statewide and oversees the Scientific Challenge while helping train future leaders.
Kristy Seitz, Secretary of the Board – (Shared Seat with Kathy)
Kristy attended Globals as an observer and now is also a school coordinator. When Kristy got involved at the elementary level, HSE DI took off. It is great seeing the families get involved and for the brothers and sisters to begin in the program as Rising Stars and continue through their senior year. The spirit of DI is kid supportive and I love that it encourages each child to develop and celebrate their gifts. The longevity of the program has also afforded her many moments of pride in the accomplishments of the HSE Alumni.
Kathy Seitz, Board Member – (Shared seat with Kristy)
Kathy starts her 20th year in DI. Her first years were as a Team Manager and now she serves as a school coordinator at Hamilton Southeastern School District (HSE). DI has become a passion in her life. DI has been a family thing for Kathy ever since her daughter Kristy attended Globals as an observer and now is also a school coordinator.

Jane Yochum, Treasurer of the Board
Jane is retired from a career in education, holding a B.S. in Elementary Education, an M.A. in Education, and Certifications in Elementary Supervision/Administration and in Teaching Emotionally Handicapped, both from IUSB. Her most recent position was as an associate professor working with college students interested in a teaching career. She has served on a variety of Board of Directors past and present including as the current President of Community Coordinated Child Care and Treasurer of the local community public library Friends, a non-profit organization. Jane is the parent of a DI alum and a past team manager. Married with two grown daughters, Jane also chairs the women’s open class division of the county fair and enjoys travel, baking and reading when she is not volunteering.
Mark’s DI involvement began as a parent, and grew over the years to serving as team manager and and on the DISC board. After graduating from Purdue’s Krannert School of Management in 1982, Mark has 30+ years of experience in the corporate setting, serving various roles in the areas of Information Technology, logistics, lean business, planning, strategy and small business start-ups. Mark will utilize his general business knowledge and financial background to support the start-up needs of Indiana Destination Imagination and serve as back up to the Treasurer.
Rosena has multiple years experience as a past DI Team Manager, school corporation DI coordinator, and DISC volunteer. Rosena’s unique nature to connect with and challenge her high-school teams are evident in both the success her teams demonstrated and that years later these young faults still connect with her. Rosena recently left the corporate world to open and operate her own small business. She will support the training needs of Indiana Destination Imagination.
Dan Stichter, Board Member

Bill has been working with creative problem solving teams in Arkansas since 1995. While in Arkansas, he has managed teams, attended global finals four times, appraised at regional and state tournaments, served as affiliate training director, and was tournament site director for regional and state competitions. Bill relocated to South Bend, Indiana as principal of Kennedy Primary Academy in 2013 and brought Destination Imagination to his school. She has appraised at the Affiliate level, trained adults and children involved in the program, and has provided DI marketing and growth support in several states.
